Gee Family Financial Journey: August, 2026

August was another positive month for our finances. The investment markets performed well throughout the month, and our portfolio benefited from that growth. In addition to the market gains, we continued making regular deposits into our investment accounts, which helped push our overall balances even higher.

One of the more meaningful changes we made during August was adjusting the level of risk within our investment portfolio. Previously, our portfolio was invested entirely in leveraged index funds. Leveraged funds are designed to magnify the daily returns of an underlying index, which means they can provide greater gains when markets rise, but they can also experience significantly larger losses when markets decline. While this approach has the potential to accelerate growth over time, it also creates additional risk and volatility compared to simply investing in traditional index funds.

During August, we decided to de-risk the portfolio somewhat by moving approximately half of our investments from leveraged index funds into traditional index funds. This does not mean that we are abandoning our focus on growth. Instead, the goal is to create a better balance between the potential for higher returns and the amount of risk we are willing to take to achieve those returns.

This change is a good reminder that investing is not simply about trying to earn the highest possible return. It is also about making sure the amount of risk in a portfolio is appropriate for the investor and their long-term goals. By maintaining exposure to leveraged investments while also adding traditional index funds, we are taking a more balanced approach that still gives the portfolio significant growth potential while reducing some of the downside risk.

Outside of our investments, August was a fairly normal month financially. We did not have any major unexpected expenses or unusual spending. Our regular cash flow remained consistent, allowing us to continue making progress without needing to make significant adjustments to our budget.

Overall, August was a strong month. Our portfolio benefited from positive market performance and continued contributions, while our investment strategy became slightly more conservative. The goal moving forward is to continue building wealth consistently while making thoughtful adjustments to ensure our level of risk remains aligned with our long-term financial goals.

Ending Net Worth: $318,475
